[how the fuck have we not had a one-on-one pc until now
anyway! it's memshare week. we have somehow survived to memshare week. yona is out and about, exploring their new locations, and when she spots xie lian she calls out to him (she can do that now!) and raises a hand in a wave -
- only to accidentally pop one of those dark fog-filled bubbles that has just drifted into her hand's path.
and suddenly, they're - in a castle, one that yona will recognize, and one that probably look a little more familiar in terms of architecture to xie lian than some of the buildings they've become accustomed to here. tables laden with delicious-looking food line a banquet hall, and people crowd around a girl with long red hair, dressed in all the finery one would expect of a princess.
"Princess, we wish you a happy birthday." "Thank you!"
...because she is a princess. it's strange, watching herself like this. the memories don't feel like they're hers, anymore, because she's such a different person now than she was back then.
it's even stranger still to watch her father, doting on her in the background. she knows, now, what will become of him, but it's so obvious from watching this younger version of herself that she had no idea, then. there were so many things she was simply blind to, and so many things she focused on that were inconsequential.
"My hair still won't lay flat! I wanted to wear it up today!" "It's hopeless... all she thinks about is her hair..."
...but that's not all she thinks about, is it. because there's soo-won, standing a ways away, waving to her with a soft smile. she calls his name and immediately rushes over to him, looking back only once when her father tries to stop her but ultimately leaving him behind to walk out to the gardens with soo-won.
he gives her a present - a beautiful hair ornament - and she pouts about how it won't suit her, but then he sends her into a tailspin with just a stroke of her hair and a few words.
"But I love your hair, Yona. It's a beautiful red, like the sky at dawn."
she stares at him, fond and enamored and suddenly not hating her hair - until hak interrupts.
"His Majesty is looking for you." "Is he? Tell him I'm resting in my room."
she walks away, then, and the memory fades out.
(timestamp on this is 16:43-18:15 crunchy doesn't love me and won't let me put timestamps in the url and the eps are no longer on youtube aPPARENTLY.)]
these bubbles have been quite - well, they've been something. xie lian doesn't really mind sharing his own, that much, it seems (his memory span is vast, and many parts of it are embarrassing, but his face is as thick as the arctic... and as long as it veers away from the trauma, it doesn't bother him so much). he's expecting his own memory to pop up, but when yona waves at him, it turns out he sees some of her life.
as the memory fades away, he's left blinking, surprised (and feels her dokis for soo-won? i see) and then, slowly, as reality comes back, exhales out. ]
...Oh, Miss Yona. [ and, he ends up... he's smiling, soft, and a little fond at the edges, though it's sad, too. ] ...it seems we must have more things in common than I had always thought. Was that a terribly long time ago...?
can you imagine if we hadn't pc'd until w4 in crau
...not very long ago. It was my sixteenth birthday.
[and according to her profile on the phs, she's still sixteen. so!
but - more in common, huh? the memory they saw hadn't been terribly detailed about her life, other than the fact that she was, at one time, a princess who lived in luxury. maybe he's just used to the finer things in life (if you're that old, surely you'd accumulate plenty of wealth?), but that doesn't seem quite right.]
your feet pound against the golden pavement of the heavens, and palaces go by you in a blur. you can feel spiritual energy that leaks off of you in waves - you are the young god taizi dianxia, the crown prince who pleased the gods of xian le, and today, you are running in desperation.
you slam open the doors of the palace, interrupting what looks to be an important meeting. a handsome, older man with dark hair wearing a golden headdress looks up at you from his throne - xie lian no longer knows this man's name, but he is the heavenly emperor, who looks at xie lian with mild curiosity.
"My lord-" you say, bluntly, completely interrupting everything, "I'm descending to the mortal realm."
the heavenly emperor blinks mildly at you and speaks, his voice gentle. "Xianle... I am aware of what's happening, but you must remain calm."
"My lord, I didn't come to request permission. I came to inform. My people" - and you love your people, more than just as your devotees, you love every single one of them as fiercely as they have ever loved you, and their despair overwhelms you, "-are currently sunken in the depths of hell, so please forgive me if I cannot remain calm."
"The universe has its own rhythm. Do you not realize that if you descend to appear before mortals, it will be a violation of heavenly law?"
something lights a fire in your heart, and you cry - "IF IT'S A VIOLATION, THEN SO BE IT!"
you are barely seventeen years old. shock ripples through the crowd, and murmuring starts, but you ignore them, your eyes only for the heavenly emperor, as you bend to bow. your heartbeat sings with spiritual energy. with pride. with determination, that floods your core.
"Pray my lord let me go this once; just give me a little time. Since the fighting has started, casualties are unavoidable, but if I could stop this and reduce the number of dead, minimize the conflict, then after the fighting ends I will for sure return willingly to repent, and have my lord sentence me as see fit. Whether I shall be sealed under a mountain for a hundred years, a thousand years, a hundred thousand years--I WILL NOT REGRET!"
adrenaline courses through you. you remain bowed low out of respect, and turn to leave, determined, fists clenched at your sides, ready to do everything for xian le. for them, for them, for them.
"Xianle!"
the emperor's voice rings out. you pause, mid step, and hear him sigh. "You can't save everyone."
and that is where you're wrong, you think, fiercely. the tiny fire in your heart is a wildfire, now.
you stand up to your full height, seventeen year old prince turned god about to be prince, again, and lock eyes with the emperor.
"Whether I can, I won't know until I've tried. Even if the heavens say I must die, if that sword doesn't pierce my heart and nail me dead on the ground, then I am still alive, and till my last breath, I will struggle to the end!"
or, something not-mortal, because when she hears "descend to the mortal realm," she can't help but think of the crimson dragon king. that's what heavenly beings do, isn't it? they watch, from above, and when they can't watch anymore - they descend and take matters into their own hands.
she searches his face as they come out of the memory.]
but there's a difference, and she's learned a little about spiritual devices and whatnot from hua cheng, so she knows that things that are common knowledge in her world won't necessarily be the same in his.]
Well, from your age, I figured you won't human. So that makes sense.
[ (yin yu voice) i've never seen a dragon before myself
anyway, that ends up making him laugh, a little, and he scratches his cheek. ]
En - that is true. [ everyone says he's old... he used to be cool... ] I ascended to godhood when I was not much older than you - even within that memory, I was seventeen.
Mn. In my realm, all of the gods were, at one point in time, humans. There are a few different ways one can ascend - the less common and usually less powerful gods often ascend because they reach a state of immortality through cultivating their spirits. The most powerful ones tend to ascend because of acts of great intelligence, battle strength, or sacrifice, or because someone in the Heavens saw their potential in one category or another.

There are two major types, usually martial, or literary, but there are others, too.
That's fascinating...! Where I come from, people think of gods as... [hmm.] ...well, as something much more than human. But knowing that you and the other gods in your land were human to begin with...
...that just goes to show, people really can do amazing things when they try, right? There are so many things they can achieve with their own power if they believe they can.
And I hope I can learn from you as well! I may be old, but if I am so set in my ways as to think I cannot learn from someone so young and vibrant as yourself, then I would be foolish.
Miss Yona, you've traveled so much since then - you seem to have grown in such a short span of time. Have you been on many adventures?

Miss Yona, would it be alright, if I touched one, for you to see? Perhaps... well, there is no guarantee, but... it is only fair.

[there are things yona remembers, that she doesn't want other people to see -
