[that is absolutely a no. yona chuckles.]

Not exactly. Thousands of years ago, the red dragon god took on human form and descended to earth to live among humans. He was King Hiryuu - the first ruler of the Kingdom of Kouka.

But the humans of that time waged war, and captured him. The other dragon gods loved him and didn't want to lose him, and so they tried to convince him to leave the humans behind, and to destroy them all as punishment for forgetting their gods, and to return to the heavens. But King Hiryuu loved humans, and wanted to live as one of them.

[he was humankin, basically.]

So, instead, the dragon gods granted their blood - and their powers - to four warriors who swore to stay by King Hiryuu's side, and protect him, and never betray him. With their powers, they cleansed the kingdom of evil, and established Kouka's tribes. Eventually, when King Hiryuu passed on, the Dragon Warriors went their separate ways - but their powers lived on, passing from generation to generation.
