[sipp i didn't ask where zuko would be but i'm going to say they're at the penny arcade because i think two ye oldes trying to play video games is really funny.
anyway, here's yona, viciously thwacking some moles at the smac-a-mole game.
anyway. what's up zuko, yona's at the command deck of the spaceship, looking out at the stars. she seems deep in thought - does she even notice he's here? - but eventually, she speaks up.]
...does looking out at the stars ever make you feel really... small?
[ after they've turned the body over, zuko is lingering around yona to make sure she's not alone. he didn't know cater well, personally, but he can see how stricken she is. ]
[ zuko's spent a lot of time hunting for sumire....... but he's found nothing, and it's been a while. so he's returned to the room, and, well, there's a knock! he opens it. ]
anyway! memshare sure is a thing. yona is really, really trying to avoid it, but as she rounds a corner in whatever location zuko happens to be in, a memory bubble drifts right in front of her and hits her in the face, it pops, and the next thing they know -
they're on a rocky cliffside. youtube hates me and doesn't have the episodes anymore, but luckily, we're starting this one from the very beginning.
yona is standing in front of tae-jun, her hair long and her expression furious. he doesn't seem to know what to make of the girl in front of him - but then, there's a shout from below.
"You idiot! I told you not to move! Why did you come out?"
because you got shot by a poisoned arrow, hak, keep up. she's too busy glaring at tae-jun to pay him any mind right away. hak, being the stubborn creature that he is, plows through more of the fire tribe's soldiers.
"Princess!"
...but then he falls.
yona turns, horrified, as he struggles back up to his feet.
"Hak!"
he takes a slash across the chest, goes over the side of the cliff, and only just barely manages to hold on. tae-jun looks delighted, because of course he does.
yona is traumatized.
At this rate, Hak...
Hak will... Hak will...
Hak will die!
she absolutely can't let that happen. she runs, right past tae-jun - but before she can get far, he reaches out and snatches her by her long, long hair. with a gasp, she's yanked back.
"No, Princess. You mustn't go to him. You're going to the castle with me!"
she glares at him, and her gaze lands briefly on the sword at his waist.
yona doesn't hesitate.
in an instant, she grabs the hilt of the sword, and swings it up wildly to hack off her hair where he has her caught. it's surprisingly easy to cut herself free, and she shoots him a look of utter fury as he stumbles back.
if she didn't have a bodyguard to save, she might have stabbed him right then and there.
but she does, so he lives another day - and she rushes off, down the path, in a desperate bid to fight the soldiers off.
I won't let you kill him!
she won't lose hak. not the way she lost her father.
Never!
one of the soldiers lifts his blade over hak's fingers -
"Get away! Get away from Hak!"
she surges forward, even though she doesn't know how to use a sword. it's not as simple as pointing it and swinging it, but it gets the soldiers to back off. they seem - baffled. like they can't believe the person in front of them is the same sheltered girl from the castle.
"Stop, Princess!" "A princess should keep quiet and..."
a soldier raises a blade behind her, but before he can strike, there's a shout from above, where tae-jun still is.
"Don't! Don't hurt the princess!"
...even if he hadn't called out, the soldier in front of her seems intimidated enough by the murderous look in her eyes that he actually takes a few steps back. she stabs the sword into the ground and kneels down at the edge of the cliff, reaching desperately for hak's hand.
"Princess..." "Hak, I'll save you." "You idiot! Run! You can't do it! Run far away!" "No! Never!"
she's crying, now, though whether it's from fright, or frustration, or the sheer awfulness of this whole situation is anyone's guess.
"Hak, I'd never forgive you for dying! I'd never forgive you!"
her tears roll dramatically down her cheeks and onto his face.
unfortunately, when the soldiers come close to try and pull her away from him - she looks over her shoulder, and loses her balance, and she and hak both vanish over the side of the cliff.
the memory fades out at timestamp 6:27, but her scream still echoes in her ears when she finds herself back in the realm.
[ haha yikes is fucking right! zuko watches this unfold with slowly widening eyes -- some of this he knew already, like yona being a princess, and hak being her attendant, but --- ]
[ well. ]
[ is it weird that as the memory goes on, he watches with a sense of.. pride? probably. but he respects her guts most of all. and, well, he at least know she survived that, since she's standing right in front of him. ]
[she pouts at him ... only mildly, though; it would be worse, if he wasn't letting her patch up his wounds. it's probably going to sting a little when she dabs at his cuts with some disinfectant, but that's what he gets for getting hurt!!]
...I was almost expecting it, honestly.
[sir pent pokes his head out of her sleeve and looks almost offended. aren't your sssons enough for you two!!]
anyway, wherever zuko ends up after the trial, sir pent is still coiled around his neck. he's sick and tired but also trying to be a comforting ssson.]
...okay, no, really. she's here to see zuko. but she looks a little uncertain? yona doesn't really like feeling so unsure of herself, but. here she is! feeling awkward!
if not for [redacted] she'd be flinging herself at him to hug him but instead, she's kind of lingering nearby]
[yona drowns herself in the river because i fucking left this tab open for an hour without hitting submit. anyway -
here they are! that last "trial" was definitely... something. they've voted, they've made their choices, and now they just have to wait to see what the results are.
when she finds zuko at the river, she heads over to him.]
