it takes a while - a long while. and it would appear that after all his avoidance, after all his searching, after a full day of running around in circles - he's out of breath.
so he's actually tucked somewhere in the shadows outside, a hand pressed against his chest uncomfortably as he tries to quietly regain his breath. though as he shifts, he ends up caught in a bit of moonlight, easier to spot.
bad. that's really bad? if there's anything she's just not mentally prepared to handle after all of that, it's soo-won looking like he's having trouble breathing. yona's heading out from the inn, her bow in hand, but when she spots him she sure as heck does run straight for him.]
Soo-won...?!
[just. reaching out with shaking hands to help steady him.]
figures, how he gets what he wants just when he's not sure if he wants it anymore. there's the sound of her voice and it makes him pull back into the shadows immediately, even though his hand will reach to meet hers.
he's not feeling well, it's clear. his hand feels a bit clammy]
he knows he shouldn't. he's well aware of the fact that in his heart, he feels as though he shouldn't - and yet. and yet he can't quite place why. in the haze of pain, and breathlessness, and warring against his own body, he decides in almost a split second that -
even if he shouldn't, he wants to hold onto this hand for as long as he can.
so he holds back, even if his grip is weak.]
... don't be scared.
[because he imagines that she's probably confused, and frightened]
losing someone is... it's terrifying. it's the worst fear in the world. yona can't remember her father's death, not as clearly as she could in the past, but she remembers how it felt, knowing that she was never going to be able to see him again. that he was gone.
she remembers the loss of her mother, too, and -
just this week, they've lost hajime and pikachu, and they hadn't been able to do anything to stop it. yona doesn't know how to stop the pain soo-won is feeling now, either.
but it's good, to hear him say he won't go, even if she's still so, so scared that he will.]
[it's a small noise in the affirmative, it's as much as he can manage in the immediate. it's slow, but he can feel the pain starting to ebb away. the attacks have been rare, only just barely starting. they're distantly familiar in the way that he's seen it happen before, watched his own mother collapse -
and so it gives him an idea of what he must look like now. he knows the thoughts that used to race through his head when he was that young, and so he gives yona's hand a weak, weak squeeze]
... this... and this place won't... be the thing to take me.
['that's you, after all.'
she is the reincarnation of king hiryuu who will lead to his downfall.
she is yona, one of his dearest friends in the universe, someone who he is nonetheless fond of, who he cares for, gods be damned]
[What will? she wonders. Tell me, so I can fight it.
even though that's... really not how this works.
still. her hand stays in his, and she watches his face carefully as the... whatever this is runs its course. it isn't easy to see him in pain, but at least he can talk. at least he's able to make this promise.
her heart feels tight, but she breathes out.]
...can I get you anything? Tea, or... [...she can't get medicine. The Leaders aren't responding. Damn.] Can I help you back to your room, or...
[she'll worry, but at least she'll worry here, where if his situation takes a turn for the worse she can either do something about it or call for help. ...maybe soo-won wants his privacy, but that's dangerous, isn't it? this isn't the palace, where help is almost always within reach, even if he can't see it.
(if only it had been like that for her father, but he'd never really kept many people around him.)]
...if all it takes is time, then I'll stay until that time has passed.
not when the last time that he remembers holding hands like this, it was when yona was the one who was too weak to stand, overcome with her emotions and pain over losing her mouth. he'd stayed by her side then, even after what she was going through, and he wonders if -
if this feeling of gratitude that rests in his chest, if it's one that he's even allowed to feel.
ha.
but he struggles a bit to speak, only squeezing her hand gently in response. he works primarily on maintaining his breathing, even through the pain - but as promised, over time, it subsides, the attack starting to disappear.]
[i'm choosing to believe that you meant mother and not mouth.]
...it will be.
[and she'll confirm it, once it is, because she's not leaving his side. once it's alright, she'll be able to see it with her own eyes.
yona just wishes there was something more she could do, for this person who she can only remember as kind. she really ought to have paid more attention to yoon and his remedies - but there's no changing the past. all she can do is try to be there for him now.
her hand stays in his, and she watches over him carefully as his pain ebbs away.]
week 0, post-trial
and simultaneously, he doesn't.

Ange... would only worry.
[and he doesn't want to worry his sweet roommate who is already probably losing her mind after.... all that.]
Just... time. You don't - have to stay.
[even if she said she would... she can change her mind at any moment. soo-won would understand, whenever she decides to turn her back on him.
